What do YOU think?

#1 Networking Tool For, Yes, Networking Groups

A few weeks ago, I told you about a very simple spreadsheet called the Watchlyst. I created this to help you help others.  As is the path of many things, it was born out of my own frustration.  So many people to help and no easy way to do so.

It was included in a post called The #1 networking tool during hard times”  You can read it The #1 networking tool during hard times .  The tool I am referring to is networking.  Helping others, in my opinion, is the single best way to network because you build lasting relationships (people that want to help you in return).

The spreadsheet was a free download from the post.  Now that the post is lost in the dark caverns of this blog’s archives, what are you to do?  Well, good news, I now have permanent home for the Watchlyst spreadsheet.  You can now visit the downloads page on the new Tim’s Strategy website.  Soon to follow are many other free and helpful (I hope) resources to support your safe arrival at a new job.

So, in addition to telling you about the new downloads page, I had another idea of how you could effectively use the Watchlyst.  This spreadsheet requires good information (like any database) and right now the job of entering the data falls upon the person who is also the one providing the leads.  Too much too ask, perhaps.

I know that many of you meet up at Starbucks for your small group and practice your elevator speech while sharing various job leads.  All good stuff.  But wouldn’t it be nice to bring your Watchlyst next time?  What if, instead of just repeating your elevator speech, everyone added a clear and concise closing statement.  One that is specifically designed to get your exact job spec on the Watchlyst of everyone else in the room.  Pretty powerful stuff because you now have the specific objectives of your entire group all on one page and, more importantly, they have yours.

If you run a networking group or participate in one, I need you to do me a favor.  Download the Watchlyst and bring it with you to your next meeting.

Test it out and give me your feedback, would you?
