5 Free Must-Have Tools For Intelligent Job Search

If you are out there looking for work, you want the best tools to help you successfully arrive at a new job. And if you knew those tools were available at one place and at one really good price (FREE), wouldn’t you point your browser there?

By using them, you will feel smarter, more objective and more organized as you plan each week during your transition.

So, this post is a summary of the free downloads available from the Tim’s Strategy website.  While you may have seen a few of these tools already or even downloaded one or two, please see below for a review of them all.
As an added bonus, I have live examples of most tools that I can e-mail you. These are actual versions I have used so you can have an example.  You can either comment below and tell me which one you want (be sure to leave your e-mail in the form) or leave a comment on the individual post for that tool (see links below).
Ready?
Job Share Assistant
You’ve probably guessed that the #1 networking tool during hard times is helping friends, family, former co-workers and other worthy folks find their next job.  Whether you are employed or working at the time, it simply does not matter.  But how?  Use the Watchlyst to organize (on one page) the specific job objectives of those in your network.  When you see a match, pass it along!
Resume Companion
A one-sheet template that gets all of your critical information onto one, easy-to-digest page.  It includes data that will help your network help you – something a resume does not accomplish.
Career Backgrounder and Narrative
Write your history and create a longer term personal brand position for yourself. Your CareerBack is written in the third person (as if you are a news reporter writing an article about yourself). This way, you can do a proper job of highlighting your best points, skills and accomplishments (often hard to do properly in a resume).  Most people don’t feel comfortable bragging on themselves.  How about you?
Job Offer Assistant
This tool helps you stay objective when it comes time to evaluate a job offer. Less emotion leads to better decisions. I hope you’ll feel a bit smarter and a bit more organized as you head out of interviews and into the world of offer negotiation.  It could also be a great document to share with a significant other – keep them in the loop and allow their opinion to matter!
Business Card for Networking
Instead of a business card, I call it a FlashCard™.  Why a FlashCard, you ask? Well, simply, it allows people to remember you and, this is crucial, your specific job objectives . . . in a flash.
So, there they are!  And, for your planning purposes, keep your eye on the Tim’s Strategy blog and website.  Don’t miss the next tool!
Coming soon?  An interview prep tool.  Just for you.

Thanks for those links. I’m checking out FlashCard™ right now. So far I can safely call it a “resume in a card.” It’s very easy, direct, and I like that it’s free (for the most part, anyway).

HI Imee – Most important? I hope it works for you!

    Tim,
Looks like good stuff. May I impose upon you for all of the templates associated with the Full Pitch™? It seems a bit more expeditious to request them in bulk.
And would it be permissible for me to share these with a group of people in transition I’m leading at my church tomorrow? I will, of course, recommend that they check out your blog.
    Thanks,
    Ken

Hi Ken – The templates themselves are a free download from the website. My personal examples are available as well. I will e-mail those to you. And, of course, you can share!

  5. David Elswick May 20, 2009 @ 12:11 pm

Tim – I’d like to see your templates as well.
    R,
    Dave

Thank you for making these tools available. I would appreciate the examples you mentioned. I am a former IT Process Group Manager who has been on the search for the last 3 months with little success so far.

No problem, Dave. Hope the tools help and I’ll get the examples out to you today . . . Thanks!

The FlashCard is a solid idea; I’ve adapted the ‘mini-resume’ with my business cards and have gotten good reactions.

Hi Michael – Thanks for the feedback. Glad it has worked for you!
