A New Video Slide Show – One Day In Job Search Revisited

one day, video, job offer, matisyahu, job search

A few months ago I wrote a post called One Day In Job Search.  It was inspired by a very cool song called “One Day” by Matisyahu.  I discovered Matisyahu via a post by Jonathan Fields less than a year ago.  How did I miss him prior?

Last night I gave a presentation on this subject to a group in Huntington Beach.  I started with a video slide show to kick things off.  Then I came back and highlighted key aspects of each slide.  A quick 30 minutes.

The message of “One Day in Job Search” is to be hopeful, positive, confident through each of the big days of the process.  Believing in yourself and your abilities so that your confidence is apparent.  And that your true “self” can join in.

The reason I went back through the show slide by slide was to add structure to the inspiration.  Sometimes inspiration is really optimism.  And optimism can be dangerous in job search.  When it leads to complacency.

Now I’d like to ask a favor.  Will you go look at this video and tell me what you think?

The original post did not get a lot of traffic or comments so I’m curious.  To see if video and audio will help get the ideas across with more strength.

So will you take a look?

Tim, I found those slides Interesting. Music is nice! I agree with you, optimism can be dangerous in job search so, don’t let it lead you to complacency in any way.

Today I got a call from a company, She thinks I might be a good fit for their new position. I am sure they will be right! So, that’s my today’s story, Next interview might be scheduled next week.

When I have a job, I am not sure I will turn off alerts fom indeed.com provided that
I’ve learnt from other blog that jobs are always temporary and I like to have the challenging opportunity to keep proving myself… who knows?. I might be wrong! :)

Tomas – Yes, when I went back through the show last night a few others asked about whether they should turn off alerts from Indeed. You can certainly keep them coming if you wish – as perhaps you can forward them to friends!

Very nice; thank you for sharing.

(Note: I was only disappointed by the music not being (the heavy reggae sound that I am familiar with/enjoy, and) what I expected, from Matisyahu. On that *note* though, perhaps a warning to others might be in order: that light lilting sound is atypical of that artist!).

Thanks again, for the many good reminders, to “keep the faith”!

Raymmmondo – Yes, I would have liked to share the version with Matisyahu’s song. Unfortunately, that song is protected and I could not use it. I looked for other songs with a reggae beat that I could use legally and there were none that matched his song. So I chose another . . .

I liked the message but the show was a little boring. Add photos of a real person to give it that personal touch. Also, a black background makes text pop out in a slide show. Since there is so much text that is very important, make it pop. And one day too, I will have a job. Thanks for the tips, I just found your blog today.

Have you tried Animoto.com? It is a great picture slideshow video web based software that might work for this type of show but sometimes the text is limiting.

Thanks Jessica – I think your comments and suggestions are about right. It was a little boring! Will make my next one better. :-) I will check out Animoto as well . . .
