A Smattering Of Twitter’s Least Genuine Auto DMs
I’m sorry, but I just have to laugh some days. At the direct messages I get from some people. Right after I follow them.
Maybe I’m to blame for following too many people. But I don’t follow everyone who follows me. Really.
And I purposely don’t use an auto DM for a couple of reasons:
- I don’t know what I would say that wouldn’t seem contrived or self-serving
- I’m not sure anyone reads them much anymore
Anyway, it’s late (1:22AM) and I just thought I’d share a few that make me shake my head. And my reaction to them.
- “Thanks for following. An article of mine was recently published and you are welcome to check it out.” No thanks
- “Thanks for the follow. I am very interested in you and Look forward to your tweets.” Really?
- “You have made my day! I am very happy to meet you and will be eager to read your updates.” You have low expectations
- “Secret #1 about me, I LOVE to Dance! – Make sure to check out (link)” Cool!
- “Hi there, thank you very much for connecting with me! Since you’re such a great person . . .” Pretty great, I guess
- “It would also be a BLAST to connect on Facebook!” A blast to be sure
- “I would love to get to know you more. Check my bubble thingy” Your what?
- “Great thanks for the synchronic alignment!..look forward to tweeting you in the twitterverse…” Here’s the number to my mechanic
- “You’re lovely! Here’s a FREE ebook for you” Lovely . . . and great (see above)
- “Hey there, it’s cool you’re following me. I do read all twits & respond to them.” Even twits need to be loved
So I guess I am reading them sometimes . . . and I hope you don’t think me unkind. Again, it’s late.
Maybe I should have an auto DM – all those people seeing my brand and clicking on my link. Sounds magical. But I think I’d rather build my community more “one at a time”. And more personally.
Am I wrong? Send me your auto DM if you have one you like. Or suggest one for me. One that won’t have me reaching for my own throat.
