Empire Avenue: More Social Media Influence Valuation
I made an investment yesterday.
In my friend and fellow career blogger Jessica Merrill. You can find her at Blogging4Jobs.com and watch her weekly web show.
I invested in her because I believe in her. And her mission.
But also because I could.
Via a site that I just learned about yesterday morning. From a new friend I met at favorite local (coffee) drinking hole.
The influence driven site is called Empire Avenue. What is it? Well, it is a social media marketplace. Like a stock market for people. You make investments in friends, co-workers or anyone you’ve met at a convention, seminar or, yes, even at your local coffee house. Anyone you think might be doing good things in the future.
Now I’m hooked.
So far it looks similar to two social media influence measuring sites I’ve mentioned to you before: Peer Index and Klout.
But there’s a game layer to it.
After I added all of my social media profiles, the site immediately started to create a stock price for me. It allowed me to create a personalized ticker symbol. And within five minutes, I already had 17 shareholders.
Crazy.
You are not investing money, you are investing social capital. You get a certain amount of “wealth” when you join the site, when you add/connect profile pages and when you otherwise get deeper in the site.
See below for my initial value:

It will take some time for my values above to populate, but when they do, I’ll have a stock price that goes up or down based on my influence (positive social media activity) and your interest in it. And how much you share it with others.
Will you invest in me?
If you are looking for work, new business growth or just to better understand your value in the world. Here’s another fun tool. One that beyond Klout or PeerIndex adds a gaming layer on top. It will build your social credibility in the world.
A big thanks to Sia for introducing me to this cool new tool. You can learn more about Sia (he’s an artist) and buy shares in him on Empire Avenue. His ticker symbol is SIA.
Give it a try and tell me what you think in the comments.
