Job Hunting? I Can See Clearly Now . . .

My music tastes are pretty diverse. While my favorite band has always been The Kinks, I also enjoy reggae, classic rock, folk, and alternative music. Music is one of my favorite forms of escape and inspiration. Probably my all time favorite song (sorry to Ray Davies), is I Can See Clearly Now written and recorded by Johnny Nash in 1972. It is constantly playing on my iPod.

I guess I could have avoided any teasing by saying my favorite song was something easy like Stairway to Heaven, but it just isn’t true.

The song made it to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 4, 1972 and stayed there for 4 weeks. Here is Johnny Nash performing the song, courtesy of You Tube:

It is somewhat painful to watch performances from the 70′s, isn’t it? Even more painful is that the song was covered by a lot of what I call less credible characters including Anne Murray, Donny Osmond and Sonny & Cher.

Luckily in 1993 Jimmy Cliff brought the song back from the depths with a version for the movie “Cool Runnings”:

So, what’s the point of all this?

There will be tough days and weeks during your job search. I had plenty of them. But every once in a while something really cool happens and you feel like things are coming around. That you are getting close to the finish line.

Like highlighted in the TV show Ally McBeal, this was and has been my theme song for a long time. A song that wakes me back up again and brings a new optimism. I’m not sure if it is the beat, the lyrics or the voices. It just works.

Here’s hoping you find some great moments in your job search.
