Man Nearly Dies During Job Interview

Irvine, CA (BR Newsfeed) December 8th started out like any other day for Josh Wellinson.  Josh, a Director of Interior Technology for Irvine-based Igotit Networking Systems, found himself in a precarious situation in his fourth floor office early Monday morning.  According to investigators on the scene, this was very nearly a dire situation.  Paramedics were not allowed on site for several hours as officials sorted through the mess.  Numerous calls to the family home of Mr. Wellinson went unanswered as of press time.

However, several key witnesses working near Mr. Wellinson’s office spoke anonymously to BR Newsfeed reporter Simon Jetson.  Based on this eyewitness testimony, the company’s brief statement and reviews of security tapes from the time of the incident, the events appear to have unfolded as follows:
Mr. Wellinson arrived in the company’s parking lot at 8:06 AM and proceeded directly to his office on the fourth floor.  According to computer records, he reviewed e-mail and checked several unrelated websites up until 8:35 AM.  At 8:40 AM he arrived at the company cafeteria, scanned his badge and purchased a coffee and blueberry muffin.  At 8:50 AM he re-scanned his badge and returned to his desk to finish his coffee and prepare for a 9:00 AM job interview.  He printed a resume and cover letter of Harold Zick, a resident of Orange, CA.
At 9:00 AM,  Mr. Zick is seen approaching the office of Mr. Wellinson.  Security tapes show Mr. Zick was escorted back by Margaret Crystal, an HR manager for the company.  Ms. Crystal leaves the two men alone at 9:02 AM for their discussion.
This is where reports get fuzzy. Eyewitness testimony cannot verify what happens next but has left many to speculate that something went very wrong during the interview.  At 9:25 AM, Mr Zick departs the office of Mr. Wellinson, enters the elevator, leaves the building and exits Gate 5 in a 1994 pale green Nissan Sentra.
Paramedics were called in once the scene was cleared and deemed safe.  Their worst fears were realized.
During the interview of Harold Zick, Josh Wellinson was nearly bored to death.

. . .
One of my goals in writing this blog is to deliver job search advice, tools and the psychology to help you succeed in a big way.  Developing a job search strategy and implementing it brilliantly means that you sometimes have to learn from and avoid the mistakes of others.
While this story is 100% fiction (people, companies, etc), it is here to make a point.  Job search includes a lot of important interactions.  All of which lead up to the interview – a culmination of your efforts with that company to date.  You need to be prepared, mentally focused, positive, well-dressed, confident and ready to deliver a meaningful story.  But you also need to be interesting.
So, please, stay out of the news.
Your comments are always appreciated.

If he’d gotten bran instead of blueberry, things might have gone very differently…
Seriously, I’m starting to print these out as the twins (Rick’s girls) are starting to interview for jobs. Even the types of jobs they are looking for (first time workers) will want to see these kinds of ideas at work!!

Yes, one small decision can change the world . . . I’m glad they help! Let me know what they think – are they practical and applicable for younger job seekers?
