What do YOU think?

Don’t Be Cute WIth Your E-Mail Address

In one of my prior posts, I told you about the importance of having a voice mail message in which you sound confident, busy and professional.  I also suggested you avoid cute comments, have no rock and roll music blaring in the background and, please, be upbeat.  No one likes a downer message.

So, where else can you fall pray to the temptations of cute or corny?  How about your e-mail address? If your e-mail address looks anything like these, consider getting yourself a new address.
If you get a lot of e-mail from your friends . . .
yomike@zoominfo.net
If you think highly of yourself . . .
mikesallthat@zebra.net
If you like basketball . . .
hoopstermike@hoops.com
If you are trying hard to confuse people . . .
mike8675309ZZZ@msn.com
Of course these are not real examples, but please understand that your e-mail address needs to be simple, professional and neutral.  Neutral means that your personality is not being forced through your e-mail address.  Be yourself, but recognize that this particular medium does not appreciate “cute”.
Did you know that you can get an e-mail address for free at Yahoo or Google?  Yes you can.
If your e-mail address looks anything like those above, go get one like this:
firstlast@gmail.com
. . . and rest easy!
